First Day of School

Here are a few pictures of our first day of home school this year:

As you can see, Chris did not want his picture taken.

Marly basically humored me. She did not like how her hair looked and really did not want me to take her picture.

In order to get their pictures, I had to agree to allow mine to be taken as well. We had a great first day and we are getting back into the swing of things. I was excited to begin and invite the kids along. We are focusing on Genealogy as part of our writing and literature curriculum. The kids were interested in how we are going to do that and were also excited about the biology books, microscope, slides, and other science tools we are using this year. Our website has more on what we are doing this year for home school.

Sam is staying with her Dad for most of the month of August. She also started her first day as a Junior in high school. This is the first year that I have not been part of her first day of school. She is sixteen and so old enough not to need me really, it is just the principle of it that is hard for me. I feel like I am being forced to let go of her about 2 years too soon. I was not prepared to have to let go of a 16 year old. I thought I would have until she was 18.

  1. I was not ready to let Julie go two years early... but it is much different with a three-year-old versus 16-year-old. I get her back after 2-1/2 hours. Hope everything goes well this month and that you can feel peace.

    Love their first-day-of-school outfits! :-)

  2. Wow you all look so comfy for school. :) ha... Love the update. I can't imagine how hard it is for to love Sam and fight so hard for her and yet let her go and be with her dad. I hope Sam decides to visit and be a part of the family still and one day I hope and think she will look back and realize all that you gave up for her and all that you gave her and how much love you have for her. Hopefully one day will be sooner rather than later. But to a 16 year old freedom and acting like they are a grown up is so important.

  3. Love it! I actually just told my husband tonight that I was going to do a "first day of school" post on my H.S. blog showing the kids in their pajamas and maybe reading by the pool. My friends all keep posting the usual pictures with their kids in new clothes, back packs heading out the door. I'm sure they will get a good laugh. Good luck with your situation w/ your daughter...that must be SO hard. It will work out, just keep the faith. Good to see you last night. You are doing such a good job for our H.S. group. Talk to you soon. You can peek into my H.S. blog just click on my profile. Laters!

  4. It was good to see you the other night, thanks for the coupon! I hate shopping and Ben hates it more.

Good luck with Sam and have fun going to school in your pajamas! I think that sounds like my kind of school.

Yea! We're back up!

On Sunday morning my email account was hit by something and I couldn't access it. Then my blog disappeared completely to which I almost ...
