One of our week old chicks died last night. Marly and Chris had noticed that it wasn't moving very much and so they were gently trying to drop water into it's mouth, but it would throw-up everything they gave it. Chris came into the house to get Mike, but by the time he came back out, the little chick named Jada was dead. Marly was crying her eyes out as she held the little chick while it died. We buried her today in our yard. This is the first chick we have lost and hopefully it will be the last.
And now we have 8 chicks...
Early chicks die often. When we got ours, we had several die...my mother who raised chickens told me it is common. It is still sad though.
ReplyDeleteso sad. No fun for the kids.
ReplyDeleteWe, too, had chicks and ducklings die last year. The first one was hard, but it seemed to not affect as much after that. It is definitely harder when you are attached to them and they are older to see them die.
ReplyDeleteOh that is too sad. Hope the rest are doing well.
ReplyDeleteSorry Marly and Chris! That stinks, I hope that the rest stay healthy and grow like crazy. We had to take Jayden to the vet yesterday because he was really sick. We didn't know if he would make it, but he seems to be getting better.
