The big 4-0

Yep, I hit the BIG 4-0 this week. Being 40 is not too shabby so far...

I had to work on my b-day, but my family took me out to eat at Lambert's Cafe, a local flavor of restaurant that is quite a fun experience! Mike talked about the Lambert's in Sikeston for years. I have heard of the "throwed roll" cafe many times and how much my love wanted to share this experience with me. We tried to go on another occasion but the line to get in wrapped around the building...so we skipped it that day. People drive in from other states to go to Lambert's Cafe. It does live up to the hype. The food is fantastic! The portions are HUGE! Bring your appetite, because this place is an all-you-can-eat heaven.

The next stop was shopping! I admit that I am hard to shop for. I do not like "practical gifts" for birthdays. Never buy me something for the kitchen on my birthday...those things are for the "family" not me. My biggest need is clothing, especially since I am heading back to work. Jeans, T-shirts, and faded flip-flips just don't cut it. So, they took me on a "complaint free" shopping trip. I made the most of my money and was able to find lots of great deals on the clearance racks. After we got into the truck, I said, "OK, you can complain now." and everyone started in on how much their legs and feet hurt. They were real troopers...especially Mike and Chris...who BOTH HATE SHOPPING with a vengeance. Thanks for taking one for mom!

The only downer to my day was to learn that our dear friends, Tom and Joy Payne, lost a son that night. He drowned in another friend's pool during a Family Home Evening swimming party. My heart goes out to them and their family. Dear Joy, you are a wonderful friend and visiting teacher to me, a Young Woman leader to my girls, and a FABULOUS mother. Your dear, sweet Jaxon was loved and cared for in your hands.

Thank you for sharing about your sweet friend, Joy, and her family! I will keep them in my prayers! That must be so hard for them! Thank goodness for our knowledge of The Plan of Salvation! I will pray that Heavenly Father will help them through this! :0)

  3. Sounds like a wonderful b-day. The complaint-free shopping is something I love, too, although it was just Don and I. When we get out there to visit y'all I want to go to Lambbert's! Happy Birthday!
